A feed for photography, science, news, art, and more related to marine life. To post to the feed, users must first be added to the contributor list. See below for:

Feed info and rules

The feed displays posts AND replies from users on the contributor list that include either #marinelife or 🦑. Feed rules are as follows (users who violate the rules will be removed from the list):

• Be kind to others.
• Keep posts relevant.
• If posting photos, art, etc. that are not your own, credit the creator in the body of the post.
• No generative AI or NFTs.
• Accounts that post exclusively or nearly exclusively other people's images like "Nature is Amazing" are not allowed, with or without crediting or scraping. Sharing posts from these accounts to the feed is also not allowed.
• Please use alt text.

How to be added to the feed contributor list

Only posts from those on the contributor list will be shared to the feed. To be added to the contributor list, make a post to your profile that includes "#addOcean". The feed creator will comment on this post once you have been added.

• Please do not @ the feed creator in this post unless 1 week has passed without a response.
• Please do not request to be added to multiple feeds in the same post.

Once added, to post to the feed simply post to your profile as usual but include either #marinelife or the 🦑 emoji.

How to check if you are already on the list

Can't remember if you were already added? You can check here:

Note: search is case-sensitive.

If your name does NOT come up:

• Confirm you are entering your Bluesky username correctly.
• Try again in 1 hour. If you were only added to the contributor list recently, the list may not have synced with the feed yet.

If you still are not able to post to the feed, follow instructions in the section above to be added.

FAQs

Do I need to be an expert or professional photographer? NO. We welcome everyone from marine scientists to folks posting photos of tide pooling finds taken on a flip phone.

Is art allowed? YES. Art is encouraged.

Can I promote my ko-fi, book, commissions link, website, etc. in the feed? YES. As long as it is relevant, ex. posting a photograph you took of a whale and including your photography portfolio link. Just please do not spam the feed.

Do I have to post frequently? NO. There is no rule that contributors must post a certain number of times to stay as contributors.
