KidLit Mega Feed
KidLit Mega Feed is collaborative feed w/ #kidlit & related hashtags from curated kidlit lists. Posts only, no replies. More info, how to post, check if you can post: https://blueskyfeedcreator.com/p/debbieohi.com/kidlit
Welcome to the KidLit Feed, which scans for kidlit-related posts from Lists actively moderated by members of the Bluesky kidlit community. Filters out replies. Admin: Debbie Ridpath Ohi, Brian Kirby, Charlene Chua.
Not sure if you can post to the feed? You can check here: 👇🏼
If you CAN post to the feed, it means you are on at least one a moderated Bluesky List maintained by someone in the kidlit community. See "How do I post in the KidLit Feed?" in the FAQs in the next section.
If your name does NOT come up:
- Make sure your are entering your Bluesky username correctly. Search is case-sensitive.
- Try again in 24 hours. If you were only added to a List recently, the List may not have been synced with the feed yet.
- Try a test post, hashtagged with #kidlit. Note that the feed only picks up posts and NOT replies. Depending on Bluesky, your post should appear within 15 minutes (usually shorter).
- If you still are not able to post to the feed, browse the list of Moderators further down on this page and find out how to get added to the appropriate list(s). Please check the About tab of their Lists for instructions on how to get added.
KIDLIT FEED FAQS
Also see Brian Kirby's excellent explainer post, The KidLit Mega Feed!
What is the KidLit Feed? The KidLit feed is for those interested in reading, writing, illustrating, or publishing books for young people. Note that this feed draws from MULTIPLE kidlit-focused Lists from different people, not just one person's List(s).
How do I post in the KidLit Feed? If your name was found in the "can I post to this feed" query above, then all you have to do is post with the #kidlit hashtag.
Other hashtags (#YAlit, for instance) and kidlit-related keywords are also picked up. Note that the post has to be a POST, not a reply.
I'm confused. There are other KidLit Feeds. Can't you combine them? Even if there was a way to combine Feeds, it wouldn't be practical since not all Feeds are actively moderated or agree to the same guidelines. We use Lists instead.
I'm on a List that's listed on Debbie's Unofficial Guide. Why can't I post to the Mega Feed? Because the List owner hasn't asked Debbie to add the List to the KidLit Mega Feed after agreeing to the moderation guidelines).
Why not just include ANY post with the #kidlit hashtag? Because that would mean ANYONE who posts with the hashtag could post to the feed, including spammers, trolls, and other bad actors. The advantage of using Lists is that they are already being curated by someone in the kidlit community. This prevents random people from posting to the KidLit feed.
How are Moderators chosen? Do I have to be an "influencer"? No, you don't have to be an "influencer." Anyone can create a List on Bluesky. One of the goals of this KidLit feed is to help boost a wider range of voices, NOT just "influencers."
You need to include more (creator type/topic) posts in your feed! You're probably right! Feel free to create a List to help us improve our Feed; we'd love that.
I have a KidLit List but it looks like you already have one like it. Could it still be added? If you plan to actively maintain it and agree to the guidelines, then overlap is fine. By "actively maintain", we mean continue to add people, cull when necessary. However, you'll likely get more attention for your List if it's one that is relatively unique and important to you. Examples: Canadian MG Humor Writers, PB authors who write STEM books, etc.
GUIDELINES
What are the guidelines for being a Moderator? As a moderator who would like to be added, you need to be willing to MODERATE your list to deal with spammers and other bad actors (removing that person from your list if necessary).
Types of behaviour that will not be tolerated on the feed:
- Hate speech, inciting flamewars, etc.
- Spamming, including purposely flooding the feed with the same sort of post over and over.
Moderators and/or Lists who don't abide by the feed rules will be removed.
If you are a member of the kidlit community active on Bluesky and have a kidlit-focused List (ideally with a specific topic, not just "kidlit writers on Bluesky" etc. ) which you are actively moderating and agree to guidelines above, please let us know!
