Welcome to the garment sewing feed!

This feed collects posts related to garment sewing, that is, clothing. Content we're interested in: sewing fabric garments together on a machine or by hand (kudos if you are one of those immensely skilled people doing historical reproductions!), mending and upcycling clothing, sewing for costuming/costume department, historical sewing content e.g. museum pieces featuring interesting techniques, patternmaking, draping, fitting and adjusting, pattern hacking, drafting, and so on. Even great inspo images (especially those which outline sewn and/or pattern detail) can be relevant. But, this feed is a work in progress, so the types of posts you see in here might change over time. Please bear with me as I continue to fine tune how posts come in here - and let me know if you want to be on the garment sewists list! I add people to that periodically from the feed, and it might become a separate input to the feed later on. For posts related to other sewing of fabric (quilting, etc.) you should check out the general sewing feed or one of the other specialty feeds! For yarn crafts, check out the Crochet and Knitting feed. Do you have and love (or maybe even love to hate) a vintage sewing machine? There's a feed for that too. But we definitely want to see your projects made on vintage machines too!

How to get into the feed

You can use the hashtag #garmentsewing! If you've forgotten to use the tag, first check the feed and see if your post has made it in anyway (The feed also collects some posts automatically using inclusion terms that are designed to capture sewing content related to garments. There's a list of garment words in there). If it hasn't, you can quote the post with #garmentsewing and it will come into the feed that way - quote posts are only allowed if they include #garmentsewing.

Post formatting tips

Try to put the name of your pattern into the text of your post where possible. This is because the Bluesky search box doesn't search for link text, but it does search post text. This means your pattern experience and tips are searchable for other sewists making the same thing. Bluesky search does search alt text.

Hashtags

To filter out hashtag spam, this feed excludes posts with 7+ hashtags - unless you're on the garment sewists list! The list can be found here - check to see if you're on it, and if not, let me know if you want to be!

Rules

• Please be nice. Enjoy projects from people who like to sew different things to you (or the same things!) and at different skill levels to you! This feed could be a place where sewists get ideas and encouragement and hot tips from other sewists. Let's build a community!
• Where possible, say which patterns were used, and credit the designers.
• No AI generated pictures please, or recommending AI generated patterns.
